About the Company

SDNC sàrl was founded by Vasco F. Gonçalves in 2016. The company has a background in mechatronics, information technology and computing. The company's main activities are dedicated to business digital transformation and to the security of its clients' private data.

SDNC sàrl business is the continuation of Vasco Gonçalves’ freelance activity since 1999. The clients were 'small' banks and small medium companies (SME). The Ministry of Work was one client, where the founder of SDNC reskilled and upskilled young and older students in information technology, including computing, for more than 15 years. The program taught was composed by him which became, at that time, an integral part of Continuing Vocational Education and Training (CVET), based on the European system of CEDEFOP. Thereafter he dedicated himself to the EVA Smart City’s project where Digital Transformation was its flagship.

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

(Following any link in this section, or on any other link in SDNC's webpages, sends you to a website outside of the control of SDNC sàrl.)

DEFINITION OF WORDS

DIGITIZATION

It is the process of converting paper documents, photographs, natural sounds, ... into a digital format, for instance from an analog or a physical medium into a digital one.

DIGITALIZATION

There is no consensus on this word, but according to Gartner it is the use of digital technologies to change a business model and provide new revenue and value-producing opportunities ... it is the process of moving to a digital business.

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

It is a total or a partial business cultural change or transformation by integrating digital technologies to create a new company's business model or strategy, and above all increasing its customers' value.

WHAT IT IS NOT

Many believe that they already achieved Digital Transformation, just by digitizing their paper content, or even by changing technology to its newest standards. That is not the case.

WHAT ABOUT 'DIGITALIZATION'?

In our experience is just an augmentation of the digitization, meaning that the business just automated everything possible with new technologies.

WHAT ABOUT 'DEVELOPMENT / RESEARCH / ANALYSIS METHODOLOGIES, DIGITAL MARKETING, ...'?

Many refer to Agile, Porter's Five Forces, PESTEL, digital marketing ..., where many employees are fervently learning them. These are only methodologies or tools to achieve product innovations, which by the way it will accelerate the market of the company's product. BUT it is not ‘digital transformation’.

WHAT IT IS

To every company, it means something different – each one has its own culture in doing things. But what digital transformation will bring is fundamental changes to the company’s business practices. Business practices are not anymore valid for today’s pace of change, which is driven by rapid changes in technology. Do you know what is IoT, cloud computing, automation, artificial intelligence ...?

Let’s take a simple example, the masonry construction sector:

For centuries, if not millennia, the tradition is to use ‘bricks on bricks’ to build a house by a team of bricklayers. Now in the space of less than a decade, there are machines doing the construction of a house, faster, precise, less waste …, and above all the satisfaction of the customers – they pays by far a lot less for their new house and the construction lasts only a few days.

To adopt digital transformation, the business owner has to rethink entirely the actual business’ strategies and change or even build new ones. The owner has to make employees understand that digital transformation will change totally their way of work.
The business leaders achieve their ultimate goal, creating value for their customers, by adopting digital transformation! And in turn, the customers may return back.

WHAT COULD BE THE BARRIER

Companies are aware that they have to do a transformation in their businesses. According to an IBM study, about 60% already started their transformation due to the pandemic, and also trade-wars.
But their major hurdle are their EMPLOYEES. Some are unwilling to change their practices, others do not have sufficient training. Another problem was found, a huge discrepancy among executives and employees:

"74% of executives ... believe they have been helping their employees learn the skills needed ..., just 38% of employees surveyed agree. 80% of executives surveyed say that they are supporting the physical and emotional health ... just 46% of employees surveyed feel that support."

Our point was always to bring the employee in the focus, as Vasco F. Gonçalves did in the past with success. Mark Foster, senior vice president, IBM Services, is in agreement with us on that point:

"... leaders need to redouble their focus on their people ... and technology infrastructure that enable them – we can't underestimate the power of empathetic leadership ... amid disruption."

Vasco F. Gonçalves calls it a 'HUMANIZED Digital Transformation' approach.

SERVICES

What we offer

CONSULTING

We provide Digital Transformation to Small Medium Enterprise (SME), to Schools, Communes, ... First, we assess the work to be done where a proviso tender is made. If a definitive tender has to be done, the costs could spiral up due unforeseen circumstances and the unpredictable nature of the work. There are always problems that can pop up since we are dealing with humans and not machines – cheaper for the customer.

SECURE NETWORK

Today, we are plagued with ransomware, exploitations on our poor-quality products, … and our reputation is constantly on the line. Many stopped doing business due to more and more stringent laws regarding privacy.

We provide the most secure network setups that exists until now. Hackers, rogue governments are virtually unable to penetrate it. Beforehand, we will do a network analysis to see its feasibility. Please see under Security for more details.

SECURITY

We provide highly secure Linux Servers and Desktops for a relative secure environment, as you may need. After completion, we may provide cybersecurity analysis to do thorough tests through a partner or you may provide your own.

Since jounalists and registered activists have a higher degree of risks, we have higher grade security systems, which involves some training.

Please take direct contact with us.

RESKILLING / UPSKILLING in
DIGITAL SKILLS

Many are going back to university to update themselves in new techniques. These may last one to four weeks, or for some a few years.

What is 'reskilling'?
It is a training program that suites the needs of a company. Generally the company's talent pool is used to deliver this type of training, or they just call us for Information Technology training. There is another possibility by providing reskilling through governmental agencies, generally the Unemployment Office in your country.

What is 'upskilling'?
It is a renewal of a new understanding in how to do more efficiently the work, for instance the use of new functions in Microsoft Office, or in an accounting program, or just an update of new laws.

According to the World Economic Forum, in the near future we will have to learn, unlearn, relearn new ways of working. Depending of your type of work, this may happen every few years due to COVID-19 and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

We provide Continuing Vocational Education and Training (CVET) in Information Technology and programming.

Case Studies (simplified)

Since our work is highly confidential and often our clients do not want to be identified,
we decided not to publish any name or anything that could reveal their identity (names and countries are fictitious).

Ateliers Mechatron sàrl (France)

An industrial builder, with more than 250 employees, builds custom-made machines that can weigh up to 5 tonnes.

The engineers and technicians were working as in 1980’s, with a lot of paper work and relentlessly on the telephone with customers and suppliers. Due to this unsustainable work practice, there were regular conflicts and many quit on a regular basis. The reason why high costs incurred in (re)skilling new personnel – expensive training.

They already had invested heavily in digitizing documents and plans, but still these were printed.

After we analyzed their work style and consulted everybody concerned, we proposed a total digital transformation to the management, a new way of doing things – a change in their work culture. We already anticipated the naysayers, for instance the old-timers, by empowering them since it was a huge change – like going back to the future.

After gradually training everybody on the new systems installed, we found certain mishaps that could quickly be corrected.

We introduced a coach to resolve deep ingrained issues between the management and the employees.

After a year, we started to see unprecedented improvements and the resignations went down by 90%. Not only the reduction of training budgets and the operational costs were welcomed, also the satisfaction found among all the teams.

Storage S.A. (Luxembourg)

A food distributor company stores fresh and deep-frozen food in walk-in freezers, where the majority of it has to go out via trucks or train – a lot of back and forth. In the production areas, there was literally a frenzy unsustainable working style.

The consequences were devastating for the moral of the workers – they had to pick up the work of their sick colleagues – and for the company’s economy. Part of the personnel got a sick leave on a “regular” basis where some were key people.

We studied each sector, their way of doing things with the semi-automated storage facility. We found workers used their semi-automated systems in a manual fashion instead to use them in an “automated” way – too complex interfaces and too many manipulations. Due to this, many accidents happened, happily nobody was injured, except the goods. This incurred high costs.

We proposed new concepts to facilitate the automation system’s interface usage to the company who programmed these automation systems.

Another sector was the administrative side. The same problem as with many companies, a lot of paper were shuffled around where many important orders got lost – annoying calls were made to customers to send them back the orders.

We proposed to the sector’s manager and to his administrative employees some changes that would facilitate their lives – a lot less paper work and automation of the commercial order system instead by fax, e-mail or telephone. A new approach to their customers through digital transformation.

The results after 9 months were astonishing, a lot less sick leaves, people were more relaxed in their work environment in both departments (production and administrative) and in the production area they minimized accidents..
